Article Booklets

In addition to our articles being available on our web site and being published in numerous magazines, newsletters, and web sites; we have put together a couple booklets compliling groups of articles dedicated to the same topic in a printed format. We currently have The Riding Tree and The Training Tree booklets available. The booklets are great to use for reference material for your riding or training. Additionaly, they give a nice overview of the philosophies used at Meredith Manor if you are considering attending school here.

The Riding Tree: a systematic approach to developing the rider.

In order for a rider to communicate clearly with their horse they must be able to apply the aids correctly. To do this, it is essential that the rider have an independent seat. The Riding Tree, developed by Faith Meredith - Director of Meredith Manor International Equestrian Centre - and the Meredith Manor Riding Staff, provides a systematic approach to the development of the rider from beginning levels through the advanced stages of riding including the development of an independent seat. It is composed of six elements which build upon one another to develop a solid foundation to carry the rider into specialized training.

The Riding Tree booklet is a 45 page compilation of 15 articles written by Faith Meredith describing each step of the Riding Tree. Understanding the steps of the development of an independent seat will allow a rider to know where they are in the development of their seat and what they still need to accomplish to reach the ultimate goal of an independent seat. In addition to the articles, there is also an introduction to each Riding Tree step outlining goals for that step, skills developed during the step (both physical and mental), and several quotes used to illustrate the step.

The Training Tree: a systematic approach to developing the horse.

The Training Tree is a solid, sequential foundation for bringing any horse along in training. It's something you can always turn to, whether you're working with green horses or older horses. Each step builds sequentially on all the steps before it. When you look at the bottom of the tree, rhythm has to be established before you can get relaxation. Relaxation has to be there before you can get freedom of gaits. And so on right up the tree. Done correctly, the steps in the Training Tree will methodically prepare the horse both physically and mentally to play whatever game the rider likes to play and will help the horse be the best he can be.

The Training Tree booklet is a 29 page compilation of 11 articles written by Ron Meredith describing each stage of the Training Tree.
