Dear Parents, Relatives, and Friends:



Summer quarter is underway at Meredith Manor. We have 104 students from: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KY, KS, LA, MA, MI, MO, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, Australia, and Venezuela. We are looking forward to a great summer.

Riding classes start at 7:00 AM in the summer quarter and run until noon. It is nice to ride in the cool of the day. Career area classes meet from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and 3:15 PM to 5:15 PM. Career area classes the students are participating in include Teaching, Training, Farrier, Forging, Horse Health, Equine Massage Therapy, and Equine Reproduction.

The Equine Reproduction course is being taught by Dr. Walter Threlfall DVM, MS, PhD, ACT this summer quarter. This course emphasizes the information and techniques necessary for breeding farm managers to excel in their chosen profession. Topics include anatomy of the mare and stallion reproductive tract, reproductive physiology, diagnosis of pregnancy including new test kits and ultrasonography, semen collection, evaluation, artificial insemination, natural service, uterine culture and biopsy usage, semen shipment and storage, techniques and other heat detection methods, basic considerations of embryo transfer, vaccination and health programs for breeding farms and breeding soundness exams.

Dr. Elizabeth Hammerman, Meredith Manor Educational consultant, was on campus last week. Dr. Hammerman evaluates all instructors and works with the staff on continuing education goals. It was a productive and busy week.
