Parent Letter

Dear Parents, Relatives, and Friends:

It’s hard to believe that our spring quarter is drawing to a close. We will have our Awards Assembly and Graduation on Thursday, May 29th beginning at 3:00 PM in the school cafeteria. Our Showmasters Championship will be held Friday, May 30th beginning at 9:00 AM in Randolph Arena. We hope to see many of you there!

Continuing students are doing class sign ups for the summer quarter this week. We will be offering the Equine Reproduction class this summer. Topics covered in this course include: anatomy of the reproductive tract and placenta, physiology of reproduction of the stallion, artificial insemination techniques and natural service, breeding soundness exams of the mare and stallion, semen collection and examination and shipment, physiology of gestation and diagnosis of pregnancy, palpation and ultrasonography, uterine cultures, endometrial biopsies, fiberoptic examination and speculum examination, uterine infections and abnormalities, estrus malfunctions and control, heat detection methods, embryo transfer, and vaccination and health programs for breeding farms. The course is taught by Dr. Walter Threlfall, Head of Theriogenology at The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine. This is a course that we developed specifically for our students which includes a good deal of hands-on training.

We had a great Visitor’s Day last month with around 200 people in attendance. We hope all of you who attended had a good time and were able to see many of our programs in action. We hope to hold a Visitor’s Day each spring.

Meredith Manor welcomed a new instructor this quarter. Nereyda Snider is a 2003 graduate of Meredith Manor. Until returning to Meredith Manor this quarter Nereyda worked in Florida teaching and training in the dressage and hunter areas. In addition she also worked at the Palm Beach Equine Clinic as a hospital technician. We are happy to have Nereyda on our staff! Joining our staff beginning in the summer quarter is Mary Lew Johnston. Mary Lew is a 2005 graduate of Meredith Manor. After graduation Mary Lew worked for Mathis Quarter Horses as a barn manager and trainer of reining horses. For the past year she has worked at Leatherwood Mountains as a trainer and instructor. We are excited to have Mary Lew joining us this quarter.
